Acupuncture and Moxibustion
Acupuncture uses fine needles to stimulate specific points along the body, removing blockages and toxins and regulating flow of vital energy (or "chi"). It improves the flow of blood and ensures the equal dispersal of nutrients to all parts of the body. Acupuncture is the world's oldest, continuously used medical system and is a growing field in the West due to its effectiveness and lack of side effects.
Biomedically speaking, acupuncture:
• activates natural pain relievers found in the body
• improves circulation and promotes healthy functioning of blood vessels
• aids in the regulation of hormones and the release of neuro-transmitters
• stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system to relieve stress
Moxibustion is often used alongside acupuncture and treats areas of the body where cold, energy stagnation, or pain have accumulated. This form of therapy involves burning the herb "Ai Ye" (Artemisia Vulgaris) over strategic points to treat a variety of conditions such as fertility issues, menstrual complaints, and arthritis.
